Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being". The word refers to having a direction or purpose in life, which makes one's life worthwhile. It is the philosophy of a good, simple life that originated on the island of Okinawa, famous for having the largest number of longest-lived people in the world.

"Iki" means to live, "Gai" is the reason why we live for. Ikigai is knowing our reason for being on Earth and living the calling that makes us live happily ever after.

Research shows that Ikigai gives you a longer, happy life!

A seven-year study by scientists from Tohoku University in Sendai on 43,000 people showed that those who did not have a sense of Ikigai in their lives were more at risk of being sick, feeling lonely, exposed to more stress and unemployment and even had a significantly higher risk of mortality.

Finding your own Ikigai will result in having a more positive outlook on life leading to happiness and, since Ikigai is also associated with a healthier and more active lifestyle it can help reduce the risk of illnesses.

The 10 rules of IKIGAI

1. Stay active; don’t retire. This is about finding value is our lives outside of when our professional lives end. It is about the activities we choose that allow us to bring purpose into our lives.

2. Take it slow. We feel more grounded when we have the sense of urgency under control.

3. Don’t fill your stomach. Less is more when it comes to eating for long life, too. According to the 80 percent rule, in order to stay healthier longer, we should eat a little less than our hunger demands instead of stuffing ourselves.”

4. Surround yourself with good friends. Ikigai is found in interpersonal relationships; when we devote time to our friendships, it brings value to our lives.

5. Get in shape for your next birthday. “Water moves; it is at its best when it flows fresh and doesn’t stagnate. The body you move through in life needs a bit of daily maintenance to keep it running for a long time.”

6. Smile. When we smile we remind ourselves of our blessings.

7. Reconnect with nature. Being in nature brings us peace; it helps us to feel settled and feeds our soul.

8. Give thanks. Spending time each day to be grateful allows us recognize the good things that surround us.

9. Live in the moment. When we are mindful of the here and now, we tend to be less anxious about the future as well as less focused on what happened yesterday.

10. Follow your Ikigai. The small things we seek, as well as our big picture goals will help us to follow our reason for being.

Challenge overview

What will we do?
Starting with your mission which is to find your ikigai, the most pragmatic thing in the world you will learn to find the answers to "how to do something" or even "what to do" which is much easier when you have a vision of your future, based on your “why”.
During our 5 day challenge we will work deeply but beautifully on the different levels of meaning, values and vision you have of yourself.

Who is this challenge for?
It is for all people who want to understand and work on their “why”, who want to re-invent themselves, or who are in the process of life transformation. It is for anyone who believes or feels that living in harmony with their inner guru can bring them peace and happiness. The Japanese call this Ikigai.

What if I have other commitments?
The Challenge has been designed to fit around any commitments you may have being work, childcare or anything else.
- All sessions have been recorded so you can watch them when it suits you
- Workbook exercises will be emailed to you so you can complete them in your own time
- Questions can be sent to us in the Facebook group or emailed to us all week at any time.

Day 1 - Introduction
Introduction to the Challenge - What is IKIGAI and why is it important for you to discover it and act upon accordingly. What will you learn? The Queen and King story- wake up!

Day 2 - Find your own Ikigai
Start to work with our Workbook Exercise Part 1, to discover your own Ikigai. Dig in deeper and find your IKI-word to create your IKI-world!
Go through the materials to come up with the most important words to impact your life positively!

Day 3 - What is the reason why you wake up every morning
Why finding your IKIGAI should be important to you and how to understand it deeper! Explore our questions and find your WHY!

Day 4 - Knowledge without practice is nothing
Implement your Ikigai or IKI-word in your daily life. Start using our Ikigai Calendar to follow your IKI-word every day!

Day 5 - Set up good habits
Good habits are the key to following your IKIGAI. Print our HABITS tracker and set yourself up with a clear intention every day!
